Tuesday Showmakers Presents... Matilda Jr. *with Dreda and Bruno Musical Theatre and Creation for ages 10-12 Tuesdays 4:00-5:30pm Sept. 8th- Nov. 24th Important dates: Studio Show: Nov. 24th, Variety Show: Nov. 29th, Holiday Drama Party: Dec. 15th At Studio 505 Fee: $305+HST *includes one workshop with guest teacher **About Showmakers Presents... Matilda Jr and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Jr These programs are designed for students who have been with us a while and are ready for a new challenge. The main difference between this program and our typical Showmakers model is that students will work on an existing musical instead of generating an original one. This program aims to prepare students for the 'real-world' of theatre: auditioning, character work, text analysis, and more extensive vocal and dance training. These programs are for true musical theatre lovers - there are 13 songs in each production! (If your performer isn't keen on singing, this is not the program for them.) We will start the term by learning how to audition by preparing monologues and solo songs. Then we will hold an audition to assign parts from within the pool of students registered for the program. ***To clarify: There is no audition to get accepted into this program. All students who register for this program will be guaranteed a character role (maybe even multiple roles) in the chosen musical. There is, of course, a chance they may not get the role they are hoping for, but students with smaller roles will also be doing a variety of 'ensemble' parts. For example, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a student may be disappointed they didn't get the role of Charlie, but they end up playing Grandma Josephine, a townsperson, a Gum-chompin' Diva, an Oompa Loompa, and a Squirrel. Every member of the cast will be VERY busy! This will be a yearlong commitment: we will be sharing excerpts of the show in the studio presentations in November, and a few musical numbers at the Variety Show on November 29th, then we will mount the full productions next June. We are excited to be welcoming a couple of guest teachers to work with the cast along the way, including Linda Kash. Exciting! And of course we will maintain our trademark Showmakers’ spirit of inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation as we bring these famous stories to life! *Please note: Although these programs are intended as a year-long commitment, they are sold term to term.
